Rockstar's open-world epic game "Grand Theft Auto V" has been critically acclaimed since it was first released in September 2013. Despite its age, the action-adventure video game is still one of the best-selling titles in history with over 100 million copies sold worldwide.
Set in the fictional state of San Andreas and city of Los Santos in Southern California, "Grand Theft Auto V" earned $800 million on the first day of its launch, and $1 billion during its first three days. It was praised for its gameplay, presentation, open world, and various protagonist designs.
In the face of its widespread commercial success, the game received backlash from anti-torture charity groups as well as from politicians as to how it depicted women and violence. A part of the game has a mission that requires the use of torture tools during a hostage interrogation, which received worldwide criticism.
Actress Lindsay Lohan previously filed a lawsuit against Rockstar due to allegations that the characters in the title bear resemblance to her.TV personality Karen Gravano also did the same, but the lawsuits were later dismissed.
Despite the backlash, Rockstar continues to develop the game, adding more missions and modes, including the newest update of the mode After Hours nightclub. Every month, "GTA V Online" has been consistent with its high sales on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
