The upcoming drama of tvN, Memories of the Alhambra, will be using AR (Augmented Reality) games. The producer shared detailed information on how this particular technological tool will be employed in the new series.

Memories of the Alhambra is a story of about a chief executive officer of an investment company and an owner of a hostel in Granada, Spain. CEO Yoo Jin Woo (played by Hyun Bin) went to Granada for a business trip and ended up staying at an old hostel owned by Jung Hee Joo (Park Shin Hye).

According to Soompi, Memories of the Alhambra will be the first drama series in Korea using AR games as setting to introduce new elements to the romance-suspense genre. AR is basically a technological tool that allows adding virtual images into the real world.

The Memories of the Alhambra will use the technology as soon as Yoo Jin Woo will enter a game wearing a smart lens, and then, a new world unfolds over Granada in the present time of 2018. Compared to other traditional dramas wherein characters travel through time and space, the upcoming series features a thrilling story of the Middle Ages, which will be added into the ordinary modern life using cutting-edge technology.

Chief Producer of Memories of the Alhambra, Park Ho Sik, explained why they used AR games in the drama. The producer said the combination of human sensibilities and the digital subject matter in the upcoming series might bring great excitement, considering the fact that today's generation has an increasing number of people who really enjoy playing games. A lot of time has also been invested in music, editing, computer graphics, and other aspects in order to draw in viewers who aren't familiar with games.

Park noted the obstacle between language and distance is crumbling due to the introduction of different platforms. So, the project started in efforts to make a drama wherein not only Koreans will enjoy, but also people around the world. Additionally, producing tvN's new series becomes possible because of the work of director Ahn Gil Ho and writer Song Jae Jung.

Park added they chose Granada as one of the main settings of the drama because of its charming city, wherein Islamic styles and which Western Catholic culture coexist as well. This is an appropriate location to portray the distinctive atmosphere of the drama, making viewers feel the excitement while watching the analogous and vintage atmosphere, and at the same time enjoying the beautiful scenery."

The first episode of the Memories of the Alhambra will air on December 1 at 9 p.m. KST.
