The Skywalker Saga is about to end in "Star Wars: Episode IX," but fans are wondering how Lucasfilm and director J.J. Abrams will do it without one of its most important characters. In a new interview, Oscar Isaac, who plays the role of Poe Dameron in the "Star Wars" trilogy, reveals the movie will still be about General Leia Organa, although Carrie Fisher died even before the filming began.
"The story deals with that quite a bit," Oscar Isaac told the Daily Beast. Although Carrie Fisher has been not around to film "Star Wars: Episode IX," her memories will live forever in the movie franchise. "It deals with the amazing character that Carrie created in a really beautiful way," he said.
So, the trilogy's final installment will find a way to give Leia's story a proper closure. Oscar Isaac admitted that it feels a little strange to film "Star Wars: Episode IX" and talk about Leia without Carrie Fisher around. Although there is "pain in that," the 39-year-old star said that the set remains to have a fun-loving and joyous vibe as they are about to put the movie to a close.
"There's a looseness and an energy [sic] to the way that we're shooting this that feels very different," Oscar Isaac continued to say. The Guatemalan-born American actor added that it feels great to be with J.J. Abrams again to film "Star Wars: Episode IX." Everyone is said to be working very close that makes him feel there is an "element of senioritis."
Oscar Isaac added that everything on the set feels more comfortable as they are not taking things too seriously, and they are just having a lot of fun. The "Operation Finale" star assured that the energy they have while filming will turn the movie into a really great film.
To recall, IGN reported that Carrie Fisher died of cardiac arrest due to sleep apnea and atherosclerosis in December 2016. She was 60-years-old. J.J. Abrams admitted that giving the late actress' iconic character a "truly satisfying conclusion" in "Star Wars: Episode IX" without her around "eluded" them.
Lucasfilm earlier revealed that it would not use CGI to make Carrie Fisher alive in "Star Wars: Episode IX." But, fans would still see Leia in the movie by using her unused footages from "Star Wars: The Last Jedi." This way, they can complete her part in the Skywalker Saga and give her a proper goodbye. The trilogy's final installment will hit the theaters on December 20, 2019.
