Song Seung Heon recently talked about the open ending of his latest action series "The Player," and the possibility of having a season 2. The actor played the role of Kang Ha Ri, a veteran conman who comes from a family of investigators, where he planned everything and always one step ahead of everyone else.
The money-stealing action series ended with a personal best of 5.8 percent in viewership ratings, and Song Seung Heon was praised for transformation as a conman in the series, Soompi reported.
During the interview, Song Seung Heon started saying they finish the series joyfully. He then started talking about how the casts met for the first time; the actor shared they all felt awkward, so he was quite worried when they started filming the series. But by the end of filming it, he said their teamwork becomes better compared to any other drama.
The actor shared he has known director Ko Jae Hyun for about 20 years because he used to work as an assistant director on "Summer Scent." Song Seung Heon said they were close, and the director told him that "The Player" was the best series to show the "different side of Song Seung Heon" that hadn't been shown to the public.
He explained that Ko Jae Hyun didn't want to make a luxurious ending because he intended to make the drama fun, and not boring. Song Seung Heun's character, Kang Ha Ri, was getting revenge for his father, but instead of seeking revenge in a dark way, the director decided to do it in fun way. That's also the reason why the tone of his acting was cool and fun.
Song Seung Heon also thinks viewers had fun watching "The Player," and a lot of people sympathized with the intention of the director. Also, the actor shared the director left an open ending as he thought it would be nice to see the characters for a long time. And if season one didn't go well, Ko Jae Hyun could make a behind story. The actor said that if the opinion of everyone would match up, he will be participating in season two as well.
Meanwhile, although they have similar age on-screen, Song Seung Heun was the oldest among cast member who was born in 1976, he is six years older than Lee Si-eon (Lim Byung-min), followed by Tae Won Suk (Do Jin Woong) born in 1989, and the youngest was Krystal Jung (Cha Ah-ryung) who born in 1994. The actor said he didn't feel their age gap while filming, nor having an awkward feeling. The interviewer also praised the actor because of his unchanging youthful appearance, where he shared that he eats well, exercise, and he doesn't smoke as well.
