Fans of Korean movies, rejoice! The box-office hit movies, "Sunny" and "Miss Granny," will be remade for the North American market.

The exciting news came to light when film distributor CJ Entertainment announced on Nov. 29 that they have partnered with Universal Studios, MGM (Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's Inc.) and Tyler Perry Films to produce the American remakes of "Sunny" and "Miss Granny," Hello Kpop reported.

In particular, MGM and Tyler Perry Studios are working with CJ Entertainment in the American adaptation of "Miss Granny." Universal Studios, on the other hand, is in charge of the investment and distribution of the American remake of the 2011 comedy-drama film, "Sunny."

The American adaptation will be officially titled "Bye Bye Bye" with a script being penned by screenwriter Amy Aniobi, whose previous works include 2014's "Amy Are Black," 2014's "Silicon Valley" and 2016's "Insecure."

HartBeat Production, an entertainment company, created by American comedian Kevin Hart, is producing the remake of "Sunny" along with John Cheng, Francis Chung and Jerry Ko of CJ Entertainment. The filming will reportedly kick-off in the second half of 2019.

"Amy [Aniobi] is an incredible writer who has put a fun spin on the classic mother-daughter story that will make you want to laugh and cry," comedian Kevin Hart said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. "We are so thrilled to work with her, Universal and CJ Entertainment on 'Bye Bye Bye.' Universal continues to be a fantastic partner, and CJ Entertainment is the premiere media company in South Korea. Plus, they've promised to help me achieve my life-long dream of becoming a K-pop star," he joked.

Directed by Kang Hyeong Cheol, "Sunny" follows a middle-aged woman, Lim Na Mi (Yoo Ho Jeong), who tries to fulfill her friend's (Jin Hee Kyung) dying wish of reuniting their group of high school friends.

The comedy-drama film, then, alternates between two timelines - the present day where the women - Lim Na Mi, Ha Chun Hwa (Jin Hee Kyung), Kim Jang Mi (Ko Su Hee), Hwang Jin Hee (Hong Jin Hee), Seo Geum Ok (Lee Yeon Kyung), Ryoo Bok Hee (Kim Sun Kyung) and Su Ji (Yoon Jung) - are middle-aged, and the 1980s when they were in high school.

Upon its released last May 2011, "Sunny" has grossed ₩54,034,324,100 (more than $48,000,000) - making it the year's second highest grossing Korean film and fourth highest grossing overall film in South Korea. This movie also has Vietnamese, Japanese and Chinese adaptations.
