The search for the new James Bond continues amid rumors that Richard Madden, who recently won Best Actor at the recent Golden Globes, is the best bet for the role. The actor is on the priority list.
Sources with knowledge about the casting for the new James Bond actor claim that Madden is "seriously looking" like he could get the role. The 32-year-old Scottish star is among those in the running for the much-coveted role as far as the speculations go. Even Barbara Broccoli, the executive producer for the James Bond films, and who has the final say on the casting, supposedly has her eyes set on the Bodyguard star. He is "on top" of her list and that she is preparing to offer him the role.
Madden's role in the Bodyguard TV series as a PTSD-suffering veteran upped his chances to be the next Agent 007. He received rave reviews on his portrayal of the stern and diplomatic protection officer David Budd that he has become the bookies favorite to be the next James Bond.
Moreover, rumors have it that the Golden Globes was his ticket to the role. If he wins the Best Actor Award in a television series, then the deal is sealed. Madden did win the trophy and beat out fellow nominees Jason Bateman (Ozark) and Brit Matthew Rhys (The Americans), which only fuels the rumors. The way he dressed for the awards likewise had fans crossing their fingers that the rumors are true. Madden unintentionally channeled James Bond in a suave tuxedo and his hair slicked back, looking as dapper as the iconic British spy does.
However, Madden has declined to confirm anything about the casting. He talked about the James Bond role backstage at the Golden Globes and referred to it as just a rumor.

The actor also previously talked about the Agent 007 role in his cover interview for British GQ magazine and chalked it up as another speculation. He referenced Tom Hiddleston (The Night Manager), another actor said to be in the running for the role.
"Then there's the next one. I'm the next one. Everyone just loves the rumor mill on that topic."
Madden pointed out the fact that people love to pick out different names weekly and that chances are there would be another actor rumored for the James Bond role in another week. For now, he is the "current one" favored by many.
