Song Joong Ki marks 2019 as his comeback year after being in a hiatus following his marriage with Song Hye Kyo in 2017. After the confirmation that the 33-year-old actor will lead the new sci-fi movie "Lightning Ship," there are reports that Kim Tae Ri is in talks to be his female opposite.
According to AllKpop, a source from Kim Tae Ri's agency, J, WIDE-Company, revealed that the actress is currently reviewing the offer to film "Lightning Ship" alongside Song Joong Ki. In fact, the 28-year-old star is in the final stages of revealing her final decision if she will be accepting the movie.
Kim Tae Ri recently finished doing the hit drama "Mister Sunshine" last year. So if "The Handmaiden" star happens to accept "Lightning Ship" opposite Song Joong Ki, it will be her comeback movie after a long while.
"Lightning Ship" is a science fiction film that will be set against the universe's backdrop." "A Werewolf Boy" and "Phantom Detective" director Jo Sung Hee is going to direct the movie, which now earns a big interest with Song Joong Ki's confirmation.
"Lightning Ship" will be Song Joong Ki and Jo Sung Hee's reunion movie after "A Werewolf Boy," which had a whopping 6.65 million moviegoers. It also helped Song Hye Kyo's husband shot to fame before his enlistment. Details about the film have yet to be revealed, but it is said to have a "huge production scale" because of its outer space theme.
"Lightning Ship," too, will be Song Joong Ki's comeback movie after getting married to Song Hye Kyo in October 2017. After their marriage, the Song-Song couple decided to take a brief hiatus. However, they now received different offers in both films and television dramas, per Korea Portal.
Aside from "Lightning Ship," Song Joong Ki will lead the historical drama "Asadal Chronicles." Song Hye Kyo, on the other hand, is currently seen in "Encounter" opposite Park Bo Gum.
Jo Sung Hee has been dreaming to doing "Lightning Ship," with the original title "Space Project," since he finished filming "A Werewolf Boy." But, he ended up doing "Phantom Detective" with Lee Je Hoon instead.
"Lightning Ship" will be financed by both Korea and China and set to feature intentional stars. The movie is set to start filming in the summer, and may be out in the middle or at the end of 2019 or the start of 2020 after the release of Song Joong Ki's "Asadal Chronicles."
