Fans have been clamoring for "Yuri on Ice" Season 2 since the first season ended in 2016. Fast forward to today, the anime series' producer, MAPPA, director Sayo Yamamoto, and writer Mitsurō Kubo have yet to announce if there will be another season, although a movie adaptation is about to come.
The first season did well when it introduced the lives of actual figure skaters. People around the world watched it online and kept tracked of Yuri Katsuki and his coach Viktor Nikiforov's stories. With their invaluable tale, fans are still wondering if they will ever see them again in "Yuri on Ice" Season 2.
According to TV Overmind, a movie adaptation of the manga series has been announced, and about to come out. But no news has been made about "Yuri on Ice" Season 2 yet. The first season ended in December 2016, so it has been two years since fans are left in the dark.
As the company that produced the anime series' first season is busy working on its movie adaptation, it might still take a little while before fans would see "Yuri on Ice" Season 2. They might also wait to get the film completed before any news about the second season comes out.
"Yuri!!! on Ice the Movie: Ice Adolescence" is reportedly set to be out in June 2019. After that, they may get the news about "Yuri on Ice" Season 2.
There are also theories that "Yuri on Ice" Season 2 may be out alongside the film. However, it looks like it is impossible to happen as its studio may have a hard time to work on two projects at the same time.
Although MAPPA has the sources, talents, and ability to work on it concurrently, it is not an ideal thing to do. "Yuri on Ice" Season 2 and "Yuri!!! on Ice the Movie: Ice Adolescence" will end up competing with each other. Viewers may be divided, affecting its revenue.
"Yuri!!! on Ice the Movie: Ice Adolescence" official trailer already emerged, and it teased a backstory of a favorite character. Polygon reported the 40-second video teaser started with plaintive music panning onto a frozen landscape.
It later revealed a figure that seemed to be of Viktor Nikiforov along with his dog Makkachin. The trailer ended with the film's title card, "Ice Adolescence." From the looks of it, "Yuri!!! on Ice the Movie" will be about Viktor's teenage years.
Until today, fans haven't met Viktor Nikiforov's family or know anything about him. As "Yuri!!! on Ice the Movie: Ice Adolescence" is about to come out, fans are hoping that they will soon see "Yuri on Ice" Season 2, too.
