The All-Electric Mini is reportedly moving closer to production. The All-Electric Mini will be the first in a series of new electric vehicles to be launched by BMW. The launch of the first-ever all-electric Mini will also mark the 60th anniversary of one of the most iconic compact cars of all time.
Perhaps as a way to preserve the iconic look of the Mini, the BMW's Mini Electric will look a lot like the regular gasoline-powered Mini. While the early prototypes of the Mini Electric still have the standard set of wheels, headlights, and taillights, the production model is reportedly going to be equipped with a "unique set of wheels." The headlights and the taillights will also be replaced to allow people to easily differentiate the electric vehicle from the regular model.
While little is known about the technical specifications of the Mini, it is expected to be equipped with BMW i3's powertrain. The i3 powertrain is designed to deliver up to 184 horsepower and 199 pound-foot of torque.
The BMW All-Electric Mini is also expected to have more than a 124-mile range. Despite the additional battery and electric motor, these features are not expected to have a significant effect on its handling and performance.
Following the modest success of the BMW Mini E and the BMW i3, the BMW All-Electric Mini was first previewed during the 2017 Frankfurt Auto Show. The upcoming All-Electric Mini will feature the aerodynamics design as seen during the Auto Show.
The radiator grille and the front apron's simulated air intakes of the Mini are also closed. The All-Electric Mini will also have an E badge which would serve as an identifier that would allow people to easily distinguish the All-Electric Mini from the standard engine versions.
The All-Electric Mini is also expected to share the same interior as the standard model Mini. However, due to the advancement of technology, the All-Electric Mini would likely have a digital driver's display to replace the older car gauges.
In line with the Mini's 60th year anniversary, BMW is reportedly going to produce a limited/special edition Mini. It is going to be called Cooper S 60 Years Edition. The limited edition Mini will have a starting price of £ 29,900 and will be available in March 2019.
The Cooper S 60 Years Edition will have a British Racing Green IV paint finish a piano black exterior trim. It will be equipped with a 17-inch light alloy wheels. Only 500 units of the Cooper S 60 Years Edition will be produced.
