Mike Conley Jr. could be better off playing elsewhere with the Memphis Grizzlies expected to go on a reboot. With the season good as lost, there is a growing belief that Memphis is likely to deal off Conley and Marc Gasol.

When healthy, both were prime players for the Grizzlies. Injuries have hampered their performance and such has taken its toll on the team. At 21-33, Memphis is expected to miss the bus to the NBA playoffs and clean house.

The NBA trade deadline is set on Feb. 7 and Memphis may end up dealing off their high-priced stars and look for younger players and future assets. Gasol is expected to get his share of suitors while Conley is already getting his share. This early, the Detroit Pistons and the Utah Jazz have reportedly expressed interest, the Detroit Free Press said.

The Pistons have started to discuss with the Grizzlies on a potential deal for Conley. Already on his third year of a $152.6 million deal, Detroit could end up offering Reggie Jackson plus a first-round pick for Conley.

If the deal is closed, Conley is expected to pair up with Blake Griffin this time around. It will be a new mutt-and-jeff tandem that could further help the Pistons. Detroit is in need of someone who can orchestrate and score at the same time, something that Conley has proven he can do with the Grizzlies when healthy.

If talks between the Piston and the Grizzlies bog down, the Utah Jazz is another team waiting in the wings. Ricky Rubio and a 2019 first-round pick are likely to be dangled, the Salt Lake Tribune said. Similar to the Pistons, the Jazz is in need of a playmaker who can also contribute on offense.

Aside from the Pistons and the Jazz, there are other teams likely interested in the services of Conley. Hence, it will all boil down to which team can close the deal with the Grizzlies first.

For whoever falls short of acquiring the services of the 31-year-old guard, there are other players to go after. There is Jrue Holiday of the New Orleans Pelicans who is also said to be on the trading block. But like Conley, multiple NBA teams also have their eye on Holiday, meaning the Pistons (or the Jazz) will need to act fast.

These are just some of the players waiting for their fate as the Feb. 7 NBA trade deadline nears.
