There will be no Atlanta season 3 this 2019. FX boss John Landgraf announced that the show's filming is falling behind its usual schedule.

The show starring Donald Glover was renewed for a third season in June 2018, and at that time, FX thought it would be ready for a 2019 return. However, the writers of Atlanta season 3 just started going back to work fairly recently, according to Landgraf, which means that the cameras won't begin rolling until perhaps later this year.

The FX boss also told The Hollywood Reporter that Glover, who serves both as the show's lead and writer, couldn't work on Atlanta season 3 just yet because of his other commitments, in both the personal and professional aspects of his life. Despite the delay, however, Landgraf is hoping that fans of the comedy series would be patient even as the network can't exactly pinpoint an actual release date until Glover is back to focus on the show.

Glover's co-star Zazie Beetz, however, also cannot say when they could begin filming. "Everybody's busy, and Donald [Glover] had his tour in the fall," Beetz said, adding, "that doesn't lend itself to time for scriptwriting."

The actress shared something hopeful for the fans, though. She revealed that as far as she knows, Glover and the writers have completed the script for "a couple of episodes" of Atlanta season 3. The show usually delivers 10 episodes per season.

Meanwhile, according to Screen RantAtlanta season 3 is expected to follow Earn (played by Glover) and Paper Boi (played by Brian Tyree Henry) on their European tour even with the fiasco at the airport at the end of the second season. Despite his shortcomings, Earn will be making better decisions in his life knowing that it would affect his daughter Lottie.

But there's still not much to go on with what viewers can expect from the third season given that the scripts aren't finished. Other details to the new installment of Atlanta won't likely be available until the late 2019 or early 2020.

Despite the erratic air dates and the delays, the series remains one of the highly anticipated TV comedies. Critics can't get enough of this eccentric show, which has won Best Comedy at the Emmys and two Best Actor trophies for Glover.

Atlanta aired Thursday nights at 10:00 p.m. during its last run on cable. The show also stars Lakeith Stanfield, Khris Davis, RJ Walker, and Harold House Moore.
