Mandy Moore is opening up about her marriage to Ryan Adams amid allegations that he sexually abused and sabotaged women pursuing a career in music. The This Is Us star revealed that she experienced emotional abuse at the hands of her ex-husband.
Moore and Adams were married on March 2009, at the height of the actress and singer's blossoming career. The 34-year-old star said that her ex-husband was fully dependent on her for attention that she could not work as much, knowing her marriage would fall apart if her career succeeded.
At one point, Moore recalled that Adams told her she wasn't a musician because she does not play an instrument, according to the New York Times. Adams would make songs with Moore for recording but he would replace her with another singer at the last minute.
The actress described her marriage to Adams as psychologically abusive. In 2016, Moore filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences, and admitted in a Glamour interview that she didn't choose the right person to marry.
However, Adams denied Moore's claims of the abusive marriage and said that he completely supported her "well-deserved professional success" when they were still together. But many women have come forward to claim that Adams made sexual advances towards them while he was still with Moore.
A 14-year-old fan named Ava was in constant communication with the musician online and she said their conversations were also sexual in nature. Singer Phoebe Bridgers also revealed her brief romance with Adams was emotionally abusive. Courtney Jaye, also another singer, also shared that she worked on a song with Adams in 2013 and he made his moves on her.
On Twitter, Adams issued an apology to those he hurt. However, he also said that the expose about him on the NYTimes was inaccurate. "Some of its details are misrepresented; some are exaggerated; some are outright false," the singer partly wrote.
Meanwhile, Moore has gotten married to her second husband Taylor Goldsmith in November 2018. The vocalist of the Dawes, Goldsmith got in touch with Moore on Instagram after she posted a photo of their album. They started emailing and talking on Facetime before they went on a date.
Moore said that Goldsmith helped her recover from the divorce. The Invisible Ink singer said she would gladly go through her failed marriage again if that meant it will bring Goldsmith in her life.
