Has filming for Ballers season 5 started? Fans of the HBO comedy series starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson are wondering about the show's status.

The cable network renewed Ballers for a fifth season in August 2018, as per Variety. But work on the set hasn't started since Johnson flew to the set of the action flick Hobbs & Shaw with Jason Statham in September.

Hobbs & Shaw wrapped up production recently. In the last week, Johnson was seen working on the set of the third Jumanji sequel. Co-star Kevin Hart shared a photo on Instagram featuring the cast with Johnson during a table read.

Admittedly, Johnson is one of Hollywood's hardest working actors. Aside from his current work commitments, he's also set to star in Black Adam, San Andreas 2, Red Notice and The King. Most of the production for these projects will be in 2019. Amid these very tight schedules, when will the superstar find time to film the Ballers season 5?

HBO hasn't actually released any teaser to Ballers season 5. Nor has the cable network announced a return date after it confirmed the premieres of its other returning shows like Big Little Lies, Game of Thrones and Barry.

According to Hidden RemoteBallers has been gradually changing its premiere dates season after season. It used to be a summer series but the last installment aired well into the fall season so there's a strong possibility that Ballers season 5 could be starting its run in the last quarter of the year.

Meanwhile, Johnson's character, Spencer Strasmore, is expected to take down the NCAA for the suicide of his brother in Ballers season 5. But his rage over what happened may affect his ward, Quincy Carter (played by Eli Goree), permanently.

Some drama might also be expected between Spencer and Jadya (played by Joy Braynt). Viewers last saw Jayda exploding with anger at Spencer for his personal beef with the NCAA because her son Quincy became collateral damage.

While Johnson's character may be a hothead on the show, his co-stars have nothing but praises for him in real life. London Brown, who plays Reggie, the character fans love to hate, said in an interview with Entering Manhood that Johnson has a fantastic work ethic.

"He's always responsible and shows up with no ego, creating a good atmosphere. The actors appreciate this, and it sets the tone for everyone," Brown said. "He's a kind dude, and his work ethic is what makes him number one. It's good old-fashioned hard work."
