Karl Lagerfeld the world-famous fashion designer has died on Tuesday, Feb. 19. He was 85.
The designer of German descent is largely known as the French luxury brand's Chanel's creative director. He was a fantastic and very creative designer who is also associated with another Parisian fashion label, Fendi. Apart from these, Karl Lagerfeld runs his own label at the time of his passing.
Karl Lagerfeld worked for Chanel for over 30 years and people recognize him with his trademark dark sunglasses, high collars and silver ponytail. One of the iconic figures in the 20th century, the designer played a big part in turning Paris into the world's fashion mecca.
In the past, Karl Lagerfeld described his work in Chanel and mentioned its founder Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel. "My job is not to do what she (Coco) did, but what she would have done," he said. "The good thing about Chanel is it is an idea you can adapt to many things."
At any rate, Anna Wintour, the editor-in-chief of Vogue remembered Lagerfeld by saying, "Today the world lost a giant among men. His creative genius was breathtaking and to be his friend was an exceptional gift."
She added, "Karl was brilliant, he was wicked, he was funny, he was generous beyond measure, and he was deeply kind. I will miss him so very much."
In another report, Chanel CEO Alain Wertheimer described Karl Lagerfeld as "ahead of his time" and called him a creative genius. The executive also acknowledged that the deceased designer contributed greatly to bringing Chanel to where it is now - one of the most successful luxury brands in the world.
Bernard Arnault, the owner of Louis Vuitton and Fendi remarked that the industry has lost a great inspiration. Adding that, the fashion world owes him a lot and everyone truly loves him.
Karl Lagerfeld passed away in Paris but the exact cause of his death was not immediately known. There are rumors that the designer has been suffering from pancreatic cancer but this is an unverified report.
