Did you know that there was never a snowfall on The Walking Dead even if the survivors have been thriving just outside of Washington, D.C.? That will soon change, however, in The Walking Dead season 9 episode 16 as the finale photos reveal winter will finally come and cause havoc.

Photos published on Entertainment Weekly from The Walking Dead season 9 finale episode 16 show the main cast walking in the thick snow-covered ground of the Washington forest. Some could barely survive the cold but they still need to stay alert lest confronted by snow zombies.

As per the episode synopsis, the survivors will be facing more challenges as a blizzard threatens the community. One of them is apparently going to be forced to make a life or death decision.

The teaser of the finale episode also hints of a huge loss for the group as the Whisperers seem hell-bent on wiping much of the fan favorites. Death is almost always expected every finale of The Walking Dead but the question now for season 9 episode 16 is if those who die will be the same as the deaths from the original comic source.

Meanwhile, there are loud whispers that Andrew Lincoln (as Rick Grimes) might likely pop up in The Walking Dead season 9 finale episode 16. The rumors stemmed from the fact that Eugene (played by Josh McDermitt) kept fiddling with his radio throughout this season and could likely come in contact with someone by the end of the episode.

In The Walking Dead comic books, Eugene did try to contact other survivors on the ham and found out about Stephanie from the Commonwealth group based in Ohio. But the TV show has other ideas with regards to this group's introduction in The Walking Dead season 10, as showrunner Angelina Kang told IGN last fall.

So, could Eugene luck out and locate Rick? The producers have hinted that The Walking Dead season 9 episode 16 will be a game-changer. Could this be what they mean about shaking the status quo?

But then again, when Lincoln left The Walking Dead in the middle of season 9 last November 2018, AMC executive Scott Gimple said that the actor is done in the series for good. Instead, he will be focusing on his work in The Walking Dead spinoff trilogy movies, and much of the gap about his character will be answered in the films.

Meanwhile, The Walking Dead season 9 finale episode 16 will air on AMC on Sunday, March 31, at 9:00 p.m. The movie featuring Lincoln as Rick Grimes, on the other hand, will have its first showcase sometime in 2020.
