Is The Gifted returning for Season 3? This is the question lingering in the back of the fans' minds ever since the second installment ended with a surprising cliffhanger.
Created for Fox by Matt Nix, The Gifted follows two ordinary parents (Stephen Moyer and Amy Acker) whose lives turn upside down when they discover that their children - Lauren (Natalie Alyn Lind) and Andrew "Andy" Strucker (Percy Hynes White) - possesses mutant abilities.
Hence, the Strucker family go on the run from the hostile government to protect themselves. Lauren and Andy, then, join an underground community of mutants who have to fight to survive. The said organization is headed by John Proudstar / Thunderbird (Blair Redford), Marcos Diaz / Eclipse (Sean Teale), and Lorna Dane / Polaris (Emma Dumont).
The underground community's greatest battle happened in The Gifted Season 2 finale where Reed Strucker (Stephen Moyer) sacrificed his life to save his family and the rest of the people in danger of being murdered by Reeva Payge's (Grace Byers) plan to create a mutant homeland.
Weeks later, Clarice Fong / Blink (Jamie Chung) suddenly appeared out of a portal and told the other mutants that she must show them all something - leaving the viewers with tons of questions about the show's next chapter.
Fans, however, will have to wait long for an answer to their questions as there is no word yet as to whether The Gifted Season 3 is a go. If the sci-fi superhero series end up seeing another season, it will not probably stay on Fox as it is the network's lowest rated and least watched show. Hence, there is a good chance that the next installment will move to streaming.
"I think that my sense is that the most likely thing is that if we come back, we'll come back in some sort of creative way," show creator Matt Nix said in an interview with Slash Film. "Some partnership, because I think what we've discovered is that fans of The Gifted are big fans of The Gifted. We have a solid fan base, and it's a little small for the broadcast networks. But we do well on streaming so there may be, my hope is that there's something to work out in that realm," he explained.
If things end up going on that way, The Gifted Season 3 could premiere sometime in September or October based on the previous two seasons' air date. It is worth noting that the first and second installments premiered on Oct. 2, 2017, and Sept. 25, 2018, respectively.
