The long wait will soon be over. The continuation of The White Princess, officially titled The Spanish Princess, will finally hit the small screen on May 5.
The Spanish Princess, which will be based on Philippa Gregory's novels The Constant Princess (2005) and The King's Curse (2014), depicts the life of Catherina of Aragon - a Spanish princess who suddenly arrives in England with her diverse entourage after being promised the throne since she was a child.
"She is Princess of Wales now, but when her husband Prince Arthur dies suddenly, the throne seems lost to Catherine," reads a description of the series via Town & Country. "That is until she claims her marriage was never consummated and that, as a virgin, she may set her sights on the new heir: the charismatic and headstrong Prince Harry, who will one day rule as King Henry VIII," it added.
Just like its predecessors, The Spanish Princess will be loaded with romance, betrayal, and bloodshed. Catherina of Aragon will be portrayed by Charlotte Hope, who is best known for her roles in Game of Thrones and The Theory of Everything.
She will be joined by Angus Imrie as Arthur, Prince of Wales; Ruairi O'Connor as Harry, Prince of Wales; Elliot Cowan as Henry VII, King of England; Harriet Walter as Margaret Beaufort, Georgie Henley as Margaret "Meg" Tudor, Laura Carmichael as Margaret "Maggie" Pole, Alexandra Moen as Elizabeth of York, Stephanie Levi-John as Lina de Cardonnes, and Philip Cumbus as Thomas Wolsey.
Nadia Parkes, Alan McKenna (EastEnders), Aaron Cobham (Dementamania), Olly Rix (Our Girl), Richard Pepper (The Same Sky), Daniel Cerqueira, Jordan Renzo (Class) and Alicia Borrachero (Hospital Central) will also play significant roles in The Spanish Princess.
The first two episodes of The Spanish Princess would be directed by Birgitte Stærmose, whose previous works include 2017's Darling and 2011's Room 304. Writers Matthew Graham (Life on Mars) and Emma Frost (The Man in the High Castle) serve as showrunners and executive producers.
Executive producing with Matthew Graham and Emma Frost are Scott Huff (Howards End and The Missing), Colin Callender (The Dresser and Wolf Hall), Charlie Pattinson (Requiem and The Missing 1 & 2) and Charlie Hampton (Wild at Heart) from All3 Media's New Pictures Playground, as per Deadline.
The Spanish Princess will premiere on May 5 on Starz. Stay tuned to Business Times for the latest The White Princess Season 2 spoilers, predictions, and updates.
