There will be a new breed of walkers roaming and attacking survivors in Fear the Walking Dead season 5. These are the most dangerous undead, which has been teased as "nuclear" walkers.
AMC recently released the trailer of Fear the Walking Dead season 5. It showed a key scene where there are roadblocks and a lot of signs warning of radiation in the area.
Showrunner Andrew Chambliss hinted via ComicBook that this nuclear warning is going to be a key story in the new season. Apparently, a group of survivors will encounter some mysterious walkers in this uncharted territory.
These walkers do more than just bite survivors, according to co-showrunner Ian Goldberg. They are unlike anything that has been shown in the series and their presence will forever change the franchise.
With the threat of nuclear walkers looming, however, comes some form of hope. A character missing since the third season finale and has been presumed dead will actually be back on the show.
Ruben Blades has been confirmed to reprise his role as Daniel Salazar in Fear the Walking Dead season 5. The former soldier has experienced terrible losses in the past and now it looks like he's got nothing to fear and lose anymore and he's ready to fight and forge ahead.
But Blades' return may not be a warm reunion, especially for Victor Strand (played by Colman Domingo). The actors recently sat down with Digital Spy and hinted that there could some tension between these two frenemies.
"[Salazar] come from a lot of war-torn places and done some terrible things," according to Domingo. "It possibly could be useful to each other. It could bring them together. Or [they] could tear each other apart."
It is unclear which episode will feature Daniel's return or for how long he's going to be present in Fear the Walking Dead season 5. The showrunners said that they thought of bringing the character back to resolve some unfinished business.
Meanwhile, The Walking Dead season 8 character Dwight (played by Austin Amelio) will also be part of Fear the Walking Dead season 5. Viewers will remember that Daryl (played by Norman Reedus) banished this character from Alexandria.
Fear the Walking Dead season 5's timeline will take place in the 18 months between The Walking Dead's season 8 and season 9 timeline. Significantly, the spinoff series is a bit behind in the timeline of the original show, which had a six-year time jump in its last installment.
Fear the Walking Dead season 5 will premiere on AMC on Sunday, June 2.
