New Amsterdam episode 20 is arriving next week, and there were only three more episodes left before the will go hiatus for a while. The upcoming episode is probably one of the most important so far this season, especially for Max and his cancer battle. Here's what to expect in this particular episode, titled "Preventable."
According to the synopsis of New Amsterdam episode 20, Max is forced to reckon with his cancer diagnosis in a new way since things are becoming more difficult for him. On the other part, Reynolds is also forced to address what went wrong in a recent surgery.
As the synopsis suggests, viewers can expect more in New Amsterdam episode 20. For Max, it's all about him and his battle with cancer. CarterMatt speculated that before the series ends, it would address two things about the character: his diagnosis and recovery.
While it's safe to assume that his battle with the disease will be a part of him, there's also a chance the writers of the show would go the other way and will not focus on what was already in the show. Max's cancer battle has always been part of this season, but that does not really define who he is, as well as his whole life.
Instead, some want the writers to look into different things and they also wanted to see what the character would look like if ever he didn't know he's somehow knocking on the death's door. But whatever happens, there's always a harsh consequence in every wrong action.
But then, there's also a different solution for Max to solve his problem. In addition, New Amsterdam episode 20 will probably be emotional and there would be some tweaks that viewers don't see it coming.
Meanwhile, although the series will go on hiatus, NBC confirmed it has renewed the program for a second season. TVLine reported the series premiered to 8.4 million total viewers and a 1.8 demo rating, with an average of 6.4 million and a 1.3 across its first twelve episodes.
New Amsterdam stars Ryan Eggold (as Dr. Max Goodwin), Freema Agyeman (Dr. Helen Sharpe), Janet Montgomery (ER head Dr. Lauren Bloom), Jocko Sims (cardiac surgical boss Dr. Floyd Reynolds), Anupam Kher (neurologist Dr. Vijay Kapoor), and Tyler Labine (psychologist Dr. Iggy Frome).
New Amsterdam episode 20 will air on Tuesday, April 30, on NBC.
