It has been almost two years since Netflix put an end to Sheriff Walt Longmire's (Robert Taylor) story. But, the expectation is still high for Longmire Season 7. Will Netflix renew the show and hear the fans' cry?

The show's first aired on A&E network, but it got canceled after three seasons in 2014. With fans' clamor, Netflix saved the day and renewed the show for six seasons. So, would there still be a chance to have Longmire Season 7?

Netflix decided to put the story to a close, so there would be no Longmire Season 7. The streaming network gave the show a decent closure and proper ending that it had no chance to return for another season.

"We are grateful to Netflix for the opportunity to compose a closing chapter for these beloved characters that inspires lasting memories," executive producers Greer Shephard, Hunt Baldwin, and John Coveny said in a joint statement, via Bustle. "Most importantly, we're committed to delivering a dynamic and satisfying conclusion to our fans that rewards their longtime loyalty."

On the other hand, Lou Diamond Phillips, who played the role of Henry Standing Bear, even proved Season 6 brought a satisfying closure that Longmire Season 7 might not be needed. Netflix announced Season 6 would be the show's final bow after dropping Season 5.

However, it didn't reveal the reason behind the cancellation. The platform never showed its shows' ratings, so there were assumptions the show ended due to finances issues, viewership, or the writers really felt it was the time to come to an end, per What's on Netflix.

The show might already run its course that Longmire Season 7 is not possible to do. It successfully covered Craig Johnson's Walt Longmire Mysteries novel series, on which the show was based on. So to avoid running out of ideas, the showrunners might come to the decision to end the story in Season 6.

Fans felt the show had a rushed ending, although it ended with tied up plotlines and a new sheriff, Cady Longmire (Cassidy Freeman), took over Walt's position. The final episode even gave a nod to the show's first episode when Walt made his coffee that seemed to take fans from where it all began.

Hence, there were assumptions that the series left on a high, but also left things open for a possible continuation. If there would be no Longmire Season 7, at least Netflix could do a reboot or a spinoff series, featuring Cady as the new sheriff.
