It has already been confirmed that Longmire season 6 will be the last for the series, yet many are hoping there will be Longmire season 7. But then, the news was already confirmed by Netflix in which the announcement was made while the fifth season is on-going.

Netflix isn't releasing viewing figures, so it's hard to identify and determine the exact reason why Longmire has ended. But, Otakukart said there were three reasons why there will be no Longmire season 7: viewership, finances, or writers' thinking.

However, if we were to look at the novel Longmire is based, we'll see that the series has already covered the majority of the novel. It's very likely they have decided not to continue doing the show since they might have run out of ideas for Longmire season 7.

Following the announcement, executive producers John Coveny, Greer Shephard, and Hunt Baldwin told Deadline that they are grateful to Netflix as they give them the opportunity to make a closing chapter for the characters in the series, and they promised viewers they would deliver a "dynamic and satisfying conclusion" as a reward for loyal fans.

That already implies Longmire would not be renewed for the seventh season simply because it has already reached its proper ending. Also, it would only be a waste of resources, that's why showrunners believed there's no need for Longmire season 7.

Meanwhile, the show originally aired on A&E but the network canceled it after three seasons. Then, Netflix picked Longmire up in 2014 and gave it another three seasons. The show is based on Walt Longmire Mystery series of novels by best-selling American author Craig Allen Johnson.

The series stars Robert Taylor who portrays the titular character, Sheriff Walt Longmire - a long-standing sheriff in the fictional Absaroka County in Wyoming. Just like other iconic heroes, Walt is a pensive and reserved man who has few words to spare and is known to have a knack for solving crimes.

Katee Sackhoff plays the character of Victoria "Vic" Moretti, Walt's deputy and a former homicide detective for the Philadelphia Police Department. She assists Walt with different cases, and later on, developed a relationship.

Lou Diamond Phillips plays Henry Standing Bear, a confidante and childhood friend of Walt. He possessed an excellent tracking skill and he becomes a very important character who usually helps Walt, and his daughter, Cady Longmire plays by Cassidy Freeman. Other cast members include Bailey Chase as Branch Connally and Adam Bartley as Archie "The Ferg" Ferguson.
