When will Shrek 5 come to theaters?
This is the question that has been bugging the whole Shrek fandom for almost a decade now. Ever since the premiere of Shrek Forever After, which happens to be the fourth installment to the franchise, way back in 2010, everyone is already wondering about the release of Shrek 5.
Many years after the fourth Shrek film, it is only in 2016 that updates about Shrek 5 have come to surface the media. And based on the news during that time, there are speculations that the upcoming film will finally arrive in between 2019 and 2020.
These speculations were further established when Donkey's voice actor, Eddie Murphy, shared publicly that the script and story for the new Shrek film are already finished. Although the star did not directly specify these statements, he mentioned that the story and scripts are really good as per Cinema Blend.
In addition to these supposed confirmations made by the actor, the Trolls' directors Walt Dohrn and Mike Mitchell shared in an interview with The Hollywood News that upcoming Shrek film got a "pretty good story" which was written by Michael McCullers.
While these statements ultimately confirmed that Shrek 5's story had been already accomplished, there are no further updates given about its release date and cast members. And three years later, the same things still apply.
Even so, there is already a countdown published online for its premiere date. According to Your Countdown, a site that houses all countdown timers for various movies, films, and series' official premiere dates, the upcoming Shrek movie has already an unconfirmed release date. And based on the timer, it seemingly appears that it is currently counting down to a May-3 premiere date.
Seeing this in the online world made a lot of people happy, especially the avid fans of the Shrek franchise. However, this published countdown notes the audience that this date is not official. Hence, it only goes to show that the film is still not yet confirmed.
On the other hand, Screen Rant claims that Shrek 5 has a 2019 premiere date. So, there is a huge chance that the film will still arrive before the year ends.
With all these claims and speculations at hand, it is quite difficult to learn the certainty behind. But one this is for sure, the only truth about these reports about Shrek 5 is that the film still does not have an official release date, cast members, and promotional trailers.
