Queen Elizabeth II reportedly favored Kate Middleton to marry Prince William, and Meghan Markle to Prince Harry, due to Sarah Ferguson's split with Prince Andrew.

According to reports, the first six members of the royal family need to ask the permission of Queen Elizabeth before marrying someone. Princess Anne, Prince Charles, as well as Prince Andrew all din that, but their first marriages didn't work out.

So now, Express reported Her Majesty is really happy about the marriages of Middleton and Prince William, and Markle and Prince Harry. The report says Queen Elizabeth favors these two ladies because they aren't descendants of the British aristocracy, and Ferguson and the late Princess Diana have something to do with it.

The 2011 documentary William and Kate: Into the Future explored how Prince William and Prince Harry didn't marry someone who wasn't a direct descendant from British aristocracy. It also explored whether the divorces of Prince Charles and Princess Diana, and Ferguson and Prince Andrew, might be one of the reasons why Queen Elizabeth was pleased to see her grandsons falling in love and marrying someone who's not in the same social circle as the Royal Family.

The narrator of the mentioned documentary said Her Majesty now welcomes women who came from "less elevated backgrounds" into her family since she has already seen so many royal divorces. Camilla Tominey, a royal correspondent, also shared her thoughts about this matter. She said Queen Elizabeth likely favors commoners now after witnessing numerous royal divorces.

Tominey further explained Her Majesty particularly in favor of someone rather unattractively termed a commoner. She also said Queen Elizabeth thinks middle-class girls with a good university education are better bets compared to aristocratic "prima donnas" who might have been singled out for princes in the days gone by. She added that Her Majesty is happy for people who are actually stable and middle-class girls.

However, Queen Elizabeth wasn't reportedly pleased when Ferguson and Prince Andrew's divorced back in 1996 and she was said to be angry at the Duchess of York for initiating the split. Reports say the Queen advised Ferguson to reconsider and be strong, but she didn't heed the advice.

But right now, Queen Elizabeth and Ferguson's relationship has improved. The latter might, in fact, go back to the royal fold since Her Majesty is still a huge fan of hers. Meanwhile, Ferguson and Prince Andrew also remain in good terms even after they separated. They even lived together in the Royal Lodge from 2008, but Ferguson moved in a ski chalet in Switzerland in 2015.
