The Simpsons creator Matt Groening is probably riding high these days. After all, his new animated series Disenchantment, which debuted on Netflix in August 2018, received a three-year renewal from the streaming platform.
According to the press release, Disenchantment part 2 is set to return in 2019 for 10 episodes. More than this, however, Disenchantment is also coming back for 20 more episodes, which are scheduled to drop in 2020 and 2021 respectively.
"We're excited to continue this epic journey with Netflix," Groening said about the show's renewal. "Stay tuned for more cranked-up suspense, infuriating plot twists, and beloved characters getting knocked off."
Netflix, however, has not confirmed when the episodes of Disenchantment part 2 will be made available on its platform. Will it follow the same August schedule as the first part's release? It's hard to speculate since Netflix doesn't abide by a strict release calendar, unlike cable and broadcast networks.
Disenchantment follows the story of Princess Bean (voiced by Abbi Jacobson), the rebellious teenager who wants nothing to do with her royal duties. She goes on unplanned adventures with her friends, Luci (voiced by Eric Andre), the devil that represents Bean's demon, and Elfo (voiced by Nat Faxxon), the optimistic but conflicted elf.
Disenchantment part 1 ended with the princess being whisked away to a foreign country with her not-quite-dead mother Queen Dagmar (voiced by Sharon Horgan) as their kingdom of Dreamland froze over. The queen has been brewing something up her sleeve that may have Bean fulfilling her dark destiny.
Luci, meanwhile, has gone missing or has likely been kidnapped and tortured. Elfo, on the other hand, has drifted at the beach and may have been taken in by mermaids.
It's still unclear where the story will pick up or how the three will reunite in Disenchantment part 2. Groening and Netflix, for that matter, have been keeping the plot points of the next installment a secret, as it should be.
There are also no teasers to Disenchantment part 2 so far. Fans, however, speculate that Netflix may have updates about the series by the summer.
Apart from the four characters named, it's also unclear who will be featured in Disenchanted part 2. Curiously, however, there is an episode listing of the fifth episode on IMDb, which hints of a new character named Brick.
Disenchantment part 1 is currently streaming on Netflix with 10 episodes.
