Filming is finally underway for Netflix's Sex Education season 2. The return to production of this naughty and light-hearted series was confirmed in a new and exciting video.
Seen in the clips behind-the-scenes for Sex Education season 2 are Gillian Anderson (as Jean Milburn), Asa Butterfield (as Otis Milburn), Aimee Lou Wood (as Aimee Gibbs), Emma Mackey (as Maeve Wiley), Ncuti Gatwa (as Eric Effoing) and Connor Swindells (as Adam Groff). The whole cast was shown vividly laughing and giggling with each other during their very first table read.
The cast has also been sharing photos of their first day on the set of Sex Education season 2 on their social media profiles. From the looks of it, all of the main stars are returning to work in this new installment.
Sex Education series creator Laurie Nunn is also psyched to be working on the show again. Netflix confirmed in February that the teenage comedy had been renewed.
"The reception to series one has been so exciting. Seeing how people across the world have connected to characters that began as ideas in my head is incredible," Nunn said in a press release following the show's renewal, as per E! News. "I'm hugely grateful to every person that has taken the time to watch the series, and I can't wait to continue this amazing journey."
Nunn hinted via Thrillist that Sex Education season 2 will still be largely about Otis. However, the supporting characters' storylines are going to expand so that they will be able to showcase the great ensemble of actors in this series.
Fans predict, however, that Otis and Maeve may finally hook up in Sex Education season 2. The sexual tension between has been building up in the first season, but Mackey told Cosmopolitan UK that she is not sure this is the best direction for her character in the upcoming installment.
"I think Maeve needs to focus on her friendship with Aimee and on her relationship with herself, and self-care and looking after herself. And Otis needs to learn as well, he's not ready for a relationship," the actress said.
Nunn said that Ola (played by Patricia Allison) would remain an obstacle for Otis and Maeve, and Jackson (played by Kedar Williams-Stirling) will still be an obstacle for them as well.
Meanwhile, Sex Education season 1 is still steaming on Netflix with ten episodes.
