The Enemy Within season 1 on NBC is closing in the capture of the terrorist Mikhail Tal (played by Lev Gorn). But in episode 12, Erica Shephard (played by Jennifer Carpenter) might cause another complication when she offers to protect Tal from the authorities.
The preview of The Enemy Within season 1 episode 12 shows Erica secretly talking to Tal on the phone. She's making a promise that she will protect him However, as it was before, Erica is motivated to do this only to protect her daughter whom Tal has threatened once before.
Curiously, Will Keaton (played by Morris Chestnut) is also seen in the teaser trying to ascertain to Erica that she's with them all the way. He has no idea that she's about to ruin their plans even as they are getting closer to the terrorist leader.
Throughout the season, Erica's loyalty has been questioned that even viewers cannot pinpoint if she's determined to clear her name with the U.S. government because of her shifting stance. Will this episode finally reveal where her true loyalties lie?
Meanwhile, The Enemy Within season 1 episode 12 will actually find Will's team temporarily taking in a high-profile congresswoman. She is a crucial key to catching Tal because this congresswoman is a target of assassination as per the episode synopsis.
According to TV Insider, Margaret Colin will play the role of the congresswoman who will once again cross paths with Erica. Colin's character once used the former agent's treason conviction to advance her career in politics.
Will and Erica will be sequestering the congresswoman, and they end up interrogating her. Why does Tal want her dead? What other details can the congresswoman provide to the team?
Meanwhile, NBC has not yet given The Enemy Within a renewal for the second season. With one more episode to go, an announcement about the show's fate is expected in the next few weeks or so.
Ratings for The Enemy Within season 1 doesn't look promising, however. As per TV Series Finale, the show averages over three million viewers a week and for a freshman series, the numbers might not be enough to keep the show going for another season.
