George R.R. Martin has been very secretive about the progress of The Winds of Winter novel. Avid followers of the A Song of Ice and Fire book series have been waiting for the tome to arrive for almost eight years now. However, despite the insistent demand of fans for the book's release, GRRM has kept mum about it.

Since The Winds of Winter novel is long overdue, some fans started to believe the might-awaited book might not be released anymore. Some reports even claimed that George R.R. Martin's age and slow-paced writing process might, also, cause him to stop finishing the popular A Song of Ice and Fire book series.  A few, however, have remained optimistic and continue believing that TWOW will hit the bookstores very soon.

Fortunately for fans, George R.R. Martin, recently, revealed that he is still working on The Winds of Winter book. The 70-year-old American novelist did not reveal the exact release date of the sixth installment of the A Song of Ice and Fire book. However, he sparked hope that TWOW will still be arriving despite the countless delays.

"It'll be done when it's done," George R.R. Martin told Entertainment Tonight when asked about an The Winds of Winter update. "It's been going very well lately, so knock wood," the brain behind the popular Game of Thrones series went on. He even teased that Lady Stoneheart's point of view will be included in the forthcoming sixth installment of the A Song of Ice and Fire book series.

"That's certainly, in the book I'm writing now, an important thread," George R.R. Martin divulged. "Even with a novel of ordinary size, when you adapt it for television or film, it usually involves cutting or simplifying, and my books are not books are ordinary length...There are hard choices sometimes, but that's the business," The Winds of Winter author added. GRRM, however, refused to answer when asked if the A Song of Ice and Fire series and the Game of Thrones television series would have the same ending and encouraged fans to watch and read both.

George R.R. Martin, previously, shared that some storylines in the book will not be parallel to the television series. One good example of this is the fate of Jon Snow. The dearly-loved character already died in the A Song of Ice and Fire series but resurrected in HBO's critically-acclaimed show. In other words, fans should expect that The Winds of Winter and the Game of Thrones series will be different at some points.

George R.R. Martin is still working on the highly anticipated sixth installment of the A Song of Ice and Fire book series. In fact, the veteran writer refused to appear on the final episodes of Game of Thrones Season 8 to focus on completing the novel.
