The Good Doctor season 3 is staying on its Monday schedule like the last two seasons. ABC has confirmed the doctor drama series led by Freddie Highmore (as Dr. Shaun Murphy) will still be airing on its usual 10:00 p.m. slot when it returns for its TV run this fall.
The network confirmed The Good Doctor season 3 schedule retention during the upfronts presentation this May. According to Variety, the successful drama series will be up against Bull on CBS, and a new show on NBC titled Bluff City Law with Jimmy Smits.
The Good Doctor season 3 is currently in pre-production with the writers crafting the new storylines. A post on Twitter from scribe Sebastian Lee confirmed that the writers are hard at work in developing the next season.
It is believed that The Good Doctor season 3 will start production sometime in June. Cast member Will Yun Lee (as Dr. Alex Park) said in a tweet that he's looking forward to going back to the set in Vancouver very soon to have dinner with his cast mates.
Most of the actors on from The Good Doctor season 2 will still be part of the third season. The one person who won't likely return, however, is actress Lisa Edelstein (as Dr. Marina Blaize) since her character's patient, Dr. Glassman (played by Richard Schiff), is now cancer free.
Glassman will return to his old job and continue to mentor Shaun at the San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital. Executive producer and showrunner David Shore confirmed this fact on TV Line.
"Yes, he's going to be a doctor, and he's going to be on the board again, I think. That's yet to be determined, for sure, but we definitely want him coming back to medicine," Shore revealed.
The Good Doctor season 3 will also feature Shaun in his new element as he explores the dating scene for the first time. In The Good Doctor season 2 finale, Shaun asked Carly (played by Jasika Nicole), but fans are hoping that Shaun would also ask out Claire (played by Antonia Thomas) and Lea (played by Paige Spara).
Shore told IndieWire that dating for Shaun will be treaded slowly and it will be the focus of the character's life in The Good Doctor season 3. It's not so much that Shaun is looking for romance, but he's learning to be social, for someone in the Autism spectrum.
