When Final Space premiered on TBS and Adult Swim, it immediately attracted a lot of fans and followers. In fact, almost a sum of 2 million viewers watched the pilot episode for both networks. And afterward, the space opera comedy-drama show has become one of the most favorite animated series in recent times.
The first season just concluded its initial plot on May 7 of this year. Having only a total of ten episodes, the whole pilot season was able to conclude its plot with a great twist and finale. And this is actually impressive considering that a ten-episode season is a pretty short scope for a plot that houses a very complicated premise.
As you may know, Final Space follows the story of Gary Goodspeed, who happens to be a human astronaut. He is actually serving his five-year sentence in a prison spacecraft called Galaxy One. But as his sentence meets the end, he met an unusual alien along the way and named him Mooncake. And from then on, they became friends.
However, he later found out that Mooncake was wanted by the so-called Lord Commander because Mooncake is the only one who possesses the cure for the Lord Commander's "mortal sickness." Of course, being the good friend that he is, he and Mooncake begin their journey to save the universe.
In addition to their initial goal, they went on to a much more mysterious journey to learn the secrets behind the titular, Final Space.
While the majority of their plans and goals have succeeded in the course of the pilot installment, the first season finale showed a very intense cliffhanger and ending.
As it happened, Gary and Mooncake, along with their crew, fought Lord Commander side by side for a mysterious portal. But in the end, the pilot season finale showed a glimpse of Gary floating off into an empty space. At the same time, it looks like the Earth was pulled into a new and mysterious dimension. Accordingly, these cliffhangers will surely be the starting point of the new season of Final Space.
Apparently, little has been shared about the upcoming season of Final Space. But even so, the show has been already renewed for a new season which has been announced just right before the first season finale aired. And according to reports, Final Space Season 2 might arrive this year during the summer season. Moreover, the new season is now confirmed to house a total of 13 episodes.
