Ghosts debuted on a weekly airing schedule on BBC since Monday, April 15, with six episodes. Now that the first season has wrapped, the cast and crew are hopeful that the show will get a second season renewal based on the reactions from the viewers.

Star and co-writer Jim Howick told Daily Express that he has not yet heard anything from the network with regards Ghosts season 2. However, he also said that he'd be surprised if the series doesn't get another season, "given the response that we've had."

Ghosts is about a couple who inherited an old property from a distant relative. Despite advice to sell the mansion, Alison (played by Charlotte Ritchie) and Mike (played by Kiell Smith-Bynoe) decided to move in and fix the site to turn it into a hotel.

The ghosts who inhabit Button Hall, however, tried the best they can to get rid of the couple and succeeded in putting Alison to coma. However, once Alison woke up, she gained an ability to see the ghosts and she tried to stick a deal with them.

The laugh series about the supernatural received high reviews and ratings from critics who described Ghosts as a true to form British comedy, as per The Guardian. It has also been described as a silly and infectious show with smart writing, according to The Independent Ireland

Speculations are that Ghosts season 2 will be released by spring 2020 in the likelihood that it receives a renewal from BBC. Presumably, the second season will still consist of the same number of episodes.

Ghosts season 2 could also introduce new cast members. In particular, Alison may likely get to know other supernatural living in the hotel.

Howick said that Alison and Mike would also likely continue with the hotel's renovation in Ghosts season 2. Part of the comedy of the series is in how the couple deals with the challenges of completing the hotel's rebuilding while also interacting and pacifying its supernatural inhabitants.

"If they've finished and the hotel happened, then it would be too soon," the star said. "It may well happen, but if it happens too soon, it changes the sitcom."

Ghosts season 1 will be out on DVD by May 27. Aside from Howick, Ritchie, and Smith-Bynoe, the show also stars Martha Howe-Douglas, Matthew Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Lolly Adfope, Laurence Rickard, Katy Wix and Ben Willbond.
