Meghan Markle's father, Thomas Markle, is not happy with Harry & Meghan: Becoming Royal, the TV movie that recently aired on the cable channel Lifetime. The film is based on the events that happened while Prince Harry and Meghan were planning their wedding in 2018.
According to TMZ, Thomas is particularly upset over the depiction of his character and cited thatHarry & Meghan: Becoming Royal was a "dumb movie." The story made it appear that he ditched the wedding, but Meghan's father insisted he couldn't fly to London to walk his daughter down the aisle due to his recent heart surgery.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been estranged from Thomas after the 74-year-old staged his photos with the paparazzi just before the wedding. According to FOX News, Meghan's father also hung up on the prince when he was confronted about his media appearances.
Meghan also sent her father a handwritten letter asking him to stop speaking to the press. However, instead of respecting her wishes, Thomas showed the letter to the reporters.
Thomas has also been telling the press that he has tried to reach out to his daughter. He claimed that he has been receiving silence from the Royals.
Meanwhile, the stars of Harry & Meghan: Becoming Royal told Hello that they are hoping the movie will not be offensive. Charlie Field, who plays Prince Harry, said that what they made had such a positive message about relationships; thus, he hopes he doesn't get a reprimanding call from Kensington Palace one of these days. Tiffany Smith, who plays the Duchess in the film, also said that she wanted to do a good job of portraying a woman who has become one of the most popular personalities in the world.
"That was such a big piece of it that I wanted to make sure we got [right]," Smith said. "They're a little bit different than every other regular couple. I hope they do get to have those playful moments and they can just really be themselves when they're alone."
For now, the stars of Harry & Meghan: Becoming Royal have yet to hear from the Palace about their movie. They are thankful, however, that the film has gotten so much response on Twitter, whether it's good or bad.
Harry & Meghan: Becoming Royal premiered on Lifetime last Monday, May 27. The movie is a sequel to Harry & Meghan: A Royal Romance, which aired just before the royal couple's wedding.
