Snowfall season 3 returns on FX this July. Following two highly-acclaimed installments, the stakes are getting higher for Franklin Saint (played by Damson Idris).

From the ideas of Boyz N the Hood director John Singleton and showrunners Eric Amadio and Dave Andron, Snowfall season 3 will take place in 1984. During this time, the cocaine epidemic has fully exploded in South Central Los Angeles.

"Something's happening in my neighborhood. Something's changing in a big way," the voice in the teaser of Snowfall season 3 hinted. This meant only one thing in that the drug trade has taken over the neighborhood. Along with it, the crimes and violence in the community have increasingly become concerning, but Franklin is trying to stay on top of things now that he's emerged with more responsibilities as a street entrepreneur.

Meanwhile, Sgt. Andre Wright (played by Marcus Henderson) is trying to follow Franklin's every move with a watchful eye in Snowfall season 3. The rest of the police, on the other hand, have to contend with pressure from the CIA and Teddy McDonald (played by Carter Hudson).

FX renewed Snowfall season 3 in September 2018, ahead of the finale of the second season, as per Variety. Its president of original programming, Eric Schrier, expressed confidence in the show's production.

"It has been great to see 'Snowfall's' audience and critical acclaim grow in its second season," Schrier said following the show's renewal. "The creative team has done a fantastic job, and we have high hopes for season three."

However, Snowfall season 3 had to briefly to stop production after an unexpected tragedy in real life. Singleton went into a coma after suffering a stroke, and he passed away following a few weeks of hospital stay.

The cast and crew, however, got back to work on Snowfall season 3 after mourning the loss of the highly-respected director. They vowed to finish the season in his honor. Executive producer Trevor Engelson explained to Deadline that everyone on the set felt it was most appropriate to move forward because this would have been what the Singleton wanted.

Snowfall season 3 is set to begin airing on FX on Wednesday, July 10, at 10:00 p.m. The show also stars Amin Joseph (as Jerome Saint), Isaiah John (as Leon Simmons) and Sergio Peris-Mencheta (as Gustavo Zapata).
