The showrunner added she wanted to see that story will be complete for him, and that Jo will come back to him in a way that's beautiful.
However, Vernoff also noted they were not yet in the writers' room for Grey's Anatomy season 16, so the fate of these two characters is still up on the air right now. Some fans wanted to see Alex and Jo getting through all of their struggles, and they will eventually use this to move forward and help each other and others as well.
Alex and Jo are caring people, and they have already faced many struggles to be where they are now, so they deserve the best in the world. But, since Grey's Anatomy season 16 is still on the way, fans need to wait a little bit more to find out what's coming for them in the future. It is possible these two would be caught up in other problems, but they could get through it in the end.
