With a lot of complaints from the previous season's flow, fans have been clamoring for Game of Thrones Season 9 or, at least, a remake. HBO has announced a new prequel's coming, but viewers like to see a sequel or a new season instead. Will it possibly happen?
The previous season finale ended with a major twist and turn of events. Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) died in the hands of Jon Snow (Kit Harington), who was sent beyond the Wall for the crime he did. Sansa (Sophie Turner) became the Queen of the North, Arya (Maisie Williams) sailed to the west of Westeros, and Bran (Isaac Hempstead Wright) became the King of Six Kingdoms - Winterfell remained to be an independent realm.
So what will happen next? Unfortunately, the fan site Winter is Coming reported there would be no Game of Thrones Season 9. HBO remained firmed of not continuing the show's story beyond Season 8.
The network also shied away from the idea of creating a sequel. There would be no new Arya story to reveal what is in the west of Westeros or a sitcom about Bran and his small council, composed of Tyrion (Peter Dinklage), Brienne (Gwendoline Christie), Davos (Liam Cunningham), and Bronn (Jerome Flynn).
However, UK's Boyle Sports is now taking bets that HBO will shock the world with the announcement of Game of Thrones Season 9. The sportsbook offers "50-to-one" odds that there will be a new season, per CNet.
Boyle Sports is determined there would be a new season due to the online petition that asked for Season 8's remake. The appeal, posted on Change.org, called out HBO to replace the showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss with new writers to write the rework.
"All 1.3 million (and growing) people that signed the petition would be only too delighted to see a new (season) and for a different result," Boyle Sports spokeswoman Sarah Kinsella said in a statement. The online book also offered odds regarding who among the show's characters is more likely to be the king who will sit on the Iron Throne in the possibly Game of Thrones Season 9.
As the future of a new season is already shaded, HBO assured there would be a prequel. In fact, there are a number of spinoffs in development.
The one set to start filming this month is said to be set thousands of years before the events of Game of Throne took place. It has a working title Bloodmoon and will be about the Night King and the White Walkers' coming. So, there will be no Game of Thrones Season 9 in the works.
