Netflix recently dropped Black Mirror Season 5 and fans already binge-watched the rest of its three episodes. As viewers waited for over a year to see the new season, they now wonder when Black Mirror Season 6 will be out.
It is only a couple of days after Netflix releases the new season, so it may take a while before the network announces the renewal. The streaming platform unveiled the full interactive Black Mirror movie, Bandersnatch in December 2018, a year after Season 4 was revealed. After three months, it dropped Season 5.
With the show's popularity and cult following, it will be no surprise if there will be Black Mirror Season 6. Show creator Charlie Brooker often infused people and technology to the show's story. But as the 2020 presidential election is about to come, there may be a new special that will be politically themed, per Screen Rant.
In fact, in an interview with Brooker and co-creator Annabel Jones, they talked about what is coming for Black Mirror Season 6, although some seem to be comical. Talking to Yahoo Movies UK, Brooker revealed there could be a bigger star coming to the new season compared to Miley Cyrus, who played the role of the pop star with a dark past Ashley O.
"Maybe we should cast someone like Barack Obama, he'd be good," he said. When Jones asked if they would put the former President of the United States in the American version of "The National Anthem" episode, which saw the UK Prime Minister mated with a pig, Brooker said it would be a "sexier episode."
According to Inverse, the Obamas already signed a deal with Netflix to produce different shows and movies. So, it might not be impossible if Barack would make an appearance on Black Mirror Season 6 with a good deal, but not with a pig.
Although Barack has yet to reveal if he is a Black Mirror fan, he watches other television series. He asked HBO before for advanced episodes of Game of Thrones and True Detective.
In addition to Black Mirror Season 6, Brooker also revealed there could be another interactive special like Bandersnatch. He said there were a lot of leftover ideas that they have developed during the making of the "choose-your-own-adventure" film, which could be a follow-up movie.
However, for them to create another interactive film, it has to justify itself. They have to produce a "compelling narrative reason" as to why they have to do it. If not, it will only be a "gimmick."
The Black Mirror interactive special may culminate in the summer of 2020. Black Mirror Season 6, on the other hand, may be out in the latter half of the same year.
