Netflix has recently dropped the full 10 episodes of Designated Survivor Season 3 after ABC canceled the show in May 2018. As the streaming network saved and continued Tom Kirkman's (Kiefer Sutherland) political journey, would fans get to see Designated Survivor Season4?
According to Bustle, if enough people watch Season 3, there is a big chance Bustle Season 4 will take shape. From the looks of it, Netflix strongly believes in the show's power. Thus, it saves it from cancellation.
Netflix reportedly resurrects the series due to its huge fan base outside of the United States. When Designated Survivor Season 1 and Season 2 hit the streaming platform, its global viewership dramatically grows.
"Timely and gripping, Designated Survivor has quickened the pulses of our Netflix members outside the U.S. and Canada in its first two seasons," Netflix VP Content Bela Bajaria said in a statement, via The Hollywood Reporter. "The international audience for the show drove our interest to bring the show to the world as a Netflix original for its third season, and we are excited to bring the first two seasons to our U.S. and Canadian members as well."
Designated Survivor Season 3 is about Kirkland's campaign for the presidential election. Here, he starts to face all the realities in the political world today, from debates, finances, fake news, and other tactics - both dirty and clean.
In an interview with TVLine, Season 3's new showrunner Neal Baer said Kirkman's storyline for the new installment would reveal what kind of a politician he really is. As he is known for being a man of "integrity, valor, and dignity," it is a big question if he could swim in the "muddy political stream" but remain clean. It would also revolve around the tradeoffs and his efforts to maintain his honor.
Season 3's 10 episodes feature Kirkman's campaign journey until the Election Day. So, there may be a major cliffhanger about who will win the seat. Hence, if ever Netflix greenlights Designated Survivor Season 4, it will delve into the aftermath of the race and what will be Kirman's future if he either win or lose.
So far, it is not yet revealed if there would be Designated Survivor Season 4. But if the show's third season does well on the platform, then it may find a permanent home on the network as it is now under the Netflix Original title.
