Fans continue to hope for George R.R. Martin to release The Winds of Winter after the book has been delayed many times over. The veteran author first announced that he is writing another installment of the A Song of Ice and Fire series in 2011. However, up until now, GRRM has not completed the tome yet.

A few weeks ago, George R.R. Martin sparked hope when he vowed to finish The Winds of Winter in 2020. But I tell you this - if I don't have THE WINDS OF WINTER in hand when I arrive in New Zealand for worldcon, you have here my formal written permission to imprison me in a small cabin on White Island, overlooking that lake of sulfuric acid, until I'm done," the brain behind the famous Game of Thrones series wrote on his blog. "Just so long as the acrid fumes do not screw up my old DOS word processor, I'll be fine," George went on.

Recently, avid followers of the famous epic fantasy novel series got alarmed again after it was revealed, during the 2019 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) on Sunday, that George R.R. Martin is collaborating with FromSoftware on Elden Ring. Reports have it that this is going to be the first game of The Winds of Winter author that has no relations to Game of Thrones. Before Elden Ring, FromSoftware had been known for producing the popular Dark Souls game.

After learning about it, some fans speculated that this might affect George R.R. Martin's writing process and might cause another delay for the long overdue book. Aside from Elden Ring, the 70-year-old writer has been busy working on other projects such as the scripts of the upcoming five Game of Thrones spinoffs, which will star Naomi Watts. The Winds of Winter author is also the executive producer of the Nightflyers series, which is based on the George's novel of the same title.

In May, George R.R. Martin made it clear that he has not completed writing The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring books yet. The veteran writer even shared his disappointment over the rumors claiming that he had a deal with HBO, which prevented him to publish the sixth A Song of Ice and Fire installment. George added that he would not start writing on the seventh volume of the popular book series until he finishes TWOW.

Hence, devoted followers of George R.R. Martin should stop buying all these claims saying that the sixth book of the A Song of Ice and Fire series is, already, done. Also, George has not yet released an official release date for the much-awaited novel. So, the best thing fans should do now is to wait again.
