The Bold Type season 4 is returning in the summer of 2020 with some definitive changes. However, the young ladies of Scarlet magazine will be up for a lot of challenges in the new season, especially since their mentor, Jacqueline Carlyle (played by Melora Hardin), seems to be out of work. But is she really gone?
Outgoing showrunner Amanda Lasher told TV Insider that it will be a different vibe at the publication in the next season. Following the restructure of Scarlet in The Bold Type season 3 finale, Jacqueline will fortunately not be out of Scarlet just yet. However, Lasher also added that the changes at the magazine will completely shake things up in The Bold Type season 4.
"Let's just say that the girls and Jacqueline are facing a new challenge that they did not anticipate," the showrunner said.
Hardin, on the other hand, talked to TV Guide about where her character could go in The Bold Type season 4. She said that while she can't give out spoilers, she confirmed that it will be "quite a shake-up" at the magazine. Fans, however, shouldn't be worried about the character.
"I think she's very aware of all of that and continues to keep taking that leap, which I think is part of what makes her so inspiring," Hardin said. "She follows her own moral compass, which is really finely tuned based on her experience and her age and all those things."
As for the young ladies, Lasher said that the relationship between Jane (played by Katie Stevens) and Pinstripe (played by Dean Jeannotte) deserves that second chance. Kat (played by Aisha Dee) and Adena (played by Nikohl Boosheri), on the other hand, may also have a better relationship in The Bold Type season 4 now that they will be working in the same company together.
Sutton (played by Meghann Fahy) and Richard (played by Samuel Page), meanwhile, have the most stable relationship among the three girls as The Bold Type season 4 returns. But something will be up when he goes to San Francisco in the next season. Lasher said that the couple's love for each other and their emotional intelligence should give their relationship a big chance of working through the challenges.
Freeform renewed The Bold Type season 4 in May. Per Variety, in place of Lasher will be Wendy Straker Hauser as the new showrunner of the upcoming installment.
