There are verses to Justin Bieber's new song, "Don't Check On Me," that seems like an allusion to his relationship with Selena Gomez. It's not nearly 24 hours since the new single dropped, but fans believe he was singing about his ex in this new song.

"Don't Check On Me" is Bieber's collaboration with Chris Brown. Part of the song's lyrics talks about a person who has recovered from a break-up and has slowly picked up the pieces. It's about someone telling the ex that they have moved on after the misery and pain.

"My heart is back in one piece, it ain't skipped a beat, no / Feeling rested up, I ain't missing sleep, no-oh," the song goes, per Capital FM. "Won't let the ghosts of our past weigh my future down / I'm liberated."

Bieber and Gomez have been on and off since 2010, but he had married Hailey Baldwin in 2018, just months after he broke up with Gomez when they rekindled their romance. The singer has been quite vocal about adoring his wife, but fans think he's still hung-up on Gomez.

In response to trolls on his Instagram, Bieber declared last March that he "loved and love" Gomez but defended his marriage at the same time. He said that Baldwin had been the best thing to happen to his life, per Harper's Bazaar

Other fans also think that even as this new song was about moving on, Bieber is still talking about his feeling for Gomez in a song.  One fan said on Twitter that she feels sorry for Baldwin because it seems like Bieber is obsessed with his ex-girlfriend.

Meanwhile, "Don't Check On Me" sounds a lot like Bieber's other hit "Love Yourself" but it's heavily influenced by guitar music. He's been busy collaborating with a lot of big-named stars for his latest album, including the likes of Ed Sheeran and DJ Khaled.

There are also rumors that he's releasing a song with Ariana Grande. Bieber won't confirm but instead tells his fans that more surprises are coming

However, Bieber has not yet announced when this new album is due for a release. This will be a follow-up to his last work, Purpose, which hit shelves in 2015.

Brown, on the other hand, will feature "Don't Check On Me" in his upcoming album Indigo, which drops this week. The other high-profile song in this release features a collaboration with Drake in "No Guidance."
