Read at your own risk: This article contains spoilers for Instinct.

It’s been a year ever since the pilot season of Instinct has finished its course. But the long wait is over as the new season has finally arrived. With a total of 13 episodes, the police procedural drama series will now continue its plot where it last left off.

In the finale of the pilot run, Instinct ended with Dylan and Andy adopting a child. As for Lizzy, she finally learned what really happened with her fiancé and how he died during an undercover operation. Also, during the final moments of the first season, it has been hinted that her promotion is at risk due to some viable reasons.

As any fan would recall, the first season started with Dylan’s introduction as a professor who happened to be a former CIA agent. While he’s enjoying the peaceful life of being a professor and author with his husband, Andy, things started to fall out of place when a serial killer has surfaced.

Lizzie, an NYPD detective, had to bring Dylan in this case as the serial killer utilized his authored book as a murder tutorial. And from then on, the two have become partners and effectively solve several murder mysteries.

Instinct is based on James Patterson’s popular paperback titled Murder Games. While the premise and the plot are pretty witty and “genius” as per Meaww, the adaptation is not entirely an eye-catcher to the audience.

It is also worth noting that some of the episodes of the show have received criticisms due to the notion that they provide similar contents just like what the other shows, like Bones, could offer. But even so, the premise has remained unique since Instinct seems to tackle various real-life issues in the community such as family, adoption, and same-sex marriage.

These factors are some of the reasons why its fans and viewers largely praise the show as per TV Line. However, it is perceived that the fandom is quite limited in terms of its numbers. Not to mention that the ratings are not promising as well. Accordingly, the show has been considered to be one of today’s most underrated series on the network.

Nevertheless, CBS still looked the other way and gave Instinct a chance to prove its value on television. And right now, the second season is now on its way to premiere its first episode titled, Stay Gold.
