Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo shocked many fans over the world when it was announced that they are ending their relationship after almost two years of being together as a married couple. Now, avid followers of the former lead stars of Descendants of the Sun series are wondering about their whereabouts.
On Thursday, June 27, it was confirmed that Song Joong Ki would be taking a break from work after he filed for divorce from Song Hye Kyo. Though the Arthdal Chronicles actor is aware that his decision to end the romance with Hye Kyo would hurt their supporters, Joong Ki stated that he hoped for a harmonious split. Blossom Entertainment revealed that fans might not be able to see Joong Ki in the next few days as he would stop from attending events. In other words, he might just stay in his home in the coming days.
"For the time being, Song Joong Ki will be taking time off for himself without [attending] official events," the agency revealed about the decision of Song Hye Kyo's partner after the shocking divorce announcement. "Song Joong Ki is expected to begin filming 'Lightning Ship' in early July. The exact details for the shoot haven't been released yet. He will focus on filming 'Lightning Ship' after the schedule is set," Blossom Entertainment added.
For starters, Song Joong Ki was confirmed to do another project soon after Arthdal Chronicles. Titled as Lightning Ship, the upcoming movie would be the second big-screen project of Song Hye Kyo's husband since the 2017 hit film called Battleship Island. Besides Joong Ki, other personalities expected to join the sci-fi project include Kim Tae Ri and Jin Seon Kyu.
A few hours after it was confirmed that Song Joong Ki filed for a divorce, the talent agency of Song Hye Kyo released an official statement regarding the matter and revealed the main primary reason behind the split. United Artists Agency (UAA) revealed that "differences in personality" had taken a toll in their marriage, which pushed Joong Ki to take legal actions to end their marriage.
"We find it unfortunate that we are greeting you with unhappy news. After careful consideration, actress Song Hye Kyo and her husband [Song Joong Ki] are taking the first steps toward a divorce," an official representative of United Artists Agency said. We respectfully ask for your understanding in regards to the fact that we cannot confirm any further details out of respect for the two actors' personal lives. Additionally, we urge you to refrain from making scandalous posts and speculative comments," the same source added.
There are rumors saying that Song Hye Kyo, who landed back to South Korea a day after Joong Ki filed for a divorce, might stay in China for quite some time as she is set to do several projects with Wong Kar Wai. In April, the lawful wife of Song Joong Ki signed up a contract with Jet Tone Films, which is a production company of director Kar Wai. Just a day before the official announcement, the Full House actress expressed her excitement about working "on more projects with Chinese directors and actors."
Aside from her upcoming projects under the Jet Tone Films, Hye Kyo is also said to do another movie titled Anna. Lee Joo Young is said to direct the forthcoming female-centric story.
