Yang Hyun Suk defended Seungri after the latter was involved in a prostitution scandal. He then dismissed earlier reports saying that they were just plain rumors.
However, an initial reporter of Seungri and Jung Koon Young’s chatroom case, Kang Kyung Yoon, revealed that Yang Hyun Suk had apologized to her. The former CEO of YG Entertainment revealed that he had no choice but to believe in the former BIGBANG member.
“After the report on Burning Sun, [Yang Hyun Suk] reached out to me through another reporter,” Kang Kyung Yoon said on SBS’s podcast Cine Town 19. “ When I reported on the suspicions of Seungri mediating prostitution services and revealed the KakaoTalk messages, [YG] released an official statement saying not to spread false rumors, but Yang Hyun Suk later told me, ‘I’m sorry about [what happened] back then. I had to believe in my kid [Seungri’s] words. It wasn’t intentional.'”
Back in February, YG Entertainment expressed in a statement that Seungri was willing to cooperate fully in the investigation and that they are “requesting a police investigation, be preparing all routes of legal action” if the rumors will be proven false.
Meanwhile, Seungri was recently forwarded to prosecution on seven charges: solicitation of prostitution and prostitution mediation, occupational embezzlement of Burning Sun funds, occupational embezzlement of attorney’s fees, instigating destruction of evidence, violation of the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment, etc. of Sexual Crimes, and violation of the Food Sanitation Act.
After all the controversies under his watch, Yang Hyun Suk decided to resign as the CEO of YG Entertainment last month. He noted that he had dedicated his life in the company for 23 years, but it’s time for him to step down.
Yang Hyun Suk apologized to all the fans and artists of the label for his decision. He then went on to say that he had been patiently tolerating all the harsh words that were thrown at him and the agency regarding all the controversies. The former CEO of YG Entertainment seemingly implied that he is pretty upset that people had been jumping into conclusion as if all that was reported are true without giving them the chance to explain and correct the false ones.
Yang Hyun Suk then admitted that the situation had become too much for him to handle that he had to step down. However, his heart is still with the company as he wished that YG Entertainment will stabilize as soon as possible.
