Fans of Momoland have taken to Twitter with the hashtag #MerriesAgainstMen after it was revealed that the members of the K-pop idol group were harassed with sexist slurs during their concert in Mexico. Police also arrested a man who was caught masturbating at the event.
Merries, MOMOLAND's official fandom found out about the incident through a tweet from a fellow fan who attended the concert. The tweet which was originally posted by user @radclvc in Mexican was translated by Twitter user @juulleda and immediately became viral.
The tweets indicated that that @radclvc attended the MOMOLAND event in Mexico and was disgusted by the behavior of some male members of the audience. According to the post, a bunch of rowdy men were shouting obscene things at the members throughout at the meet and greet session of the event goading the girls to say cuss words back at them, reported All Kpop.
According to the fan, the men were yelling at the MOMOLAND members whether their female parts were as small as their eyes. This supposedly happened at a VIP fan sign event, to the shock of other fans in attendance. Apart from the obscenities, some of the men even drank beer and spilled them on the floor.
The coup de grace, however, was the arrest of another man who was found pleasuring himself during the MOMOLAND concert. It was not detailed what happened after the arrest, but fans all over the world are demanding that the men who were responsible for the sexual harassment and obscene act be held liable for their behavior.
Academia Ninshi, the organizers of MOMOLAND's concert in Mexico, later issued a statement that the man who was masturbating was kicked out by security and taken away by the police. "We are sorry that people like this exist," they stated.
However, after the Twitter post became viral, Merries even became even more inflamed by some posts blaming MOMOLAND for the incident because of their outfits.
Mary, a MOMOLAND fan tweeted: "Please, send support to MOMOLAND. No one is talking about that man who masturbated in MOMOLAND fansign and yelled sexualizing things. Many men are trash, and women don't deserve that. Not only MOMOLAND but all the women in the world. We're not object. #MERRIESAGAINSTMEN."
"The way y'all will project hate towards Momoland when all the bad sh't always happens to them. Stop blaming their outfits for the reason why men were screaming indecent and sexist things towards them AND for the reason a man masturbated to them @ their concert," another fan said.
Even non-fans have also shared their support for MOMOLAND and said that women should not have to go through this type of abuse at this day and age.
