Queen Elizabeth may be the ruler of all England, but deep down inside she is still a mother. And just like any other moms out there, the 93-year-old Queen of the United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth realms also has a favorite in-law.
With the popularity of Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle, Queen Elizabeth is mostly being photographed with them. That being said, many believed that if Her Majesty has a favorite in-law, it should be either of the two.
Although the Queen has a great relationship with the Duchess of Cambridge and the Duchess of Sussex, they are not her favorite in-law. According to royal commentator Neil Sean, Sophie Wessex, the Countess of Wessex, who is the wife of her youngest son Prince Edward is the Queen’s favorite.
Sean explained that Queen Elizabeth likes the fact that Sophie has an unassuming and naive nature. They also share the love for horses and military history.
Additionally, her Majesty loves that the Countess of Wessex is a quiet and efficient figure. She also doesn’t seek attention to make it to the headlines. Sean claimed that Sophie had been the Queen’s favorite for a long time.
But just because Queen Elizabeth’s favorite is the Countess of Wessex, doesn’t mean that she doesn’t adore the more popular candidates Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle. The Queen opened her doors for both of them, despite not having a Royal background.
The Duchess of Cambridge was a commoner, while the Duchess of Sussex was an American actress. Queen Elizabeth’s acceptance is enough proof to say that she likes them both to be part of the Royal family.
“I would say Meghan has ingratiated herself very cleverly with the Queen,” Sean shared. “We saw last year them going on the trip and the royal train and all that sort of stuff … I think the Queen herself is very much a girls’ girl and she does try and connect with the younger members of the family and guide and nurture them.”
As for her favorite son, previous reports revealed that Queen Elizabeth has a special spot for her third born, Prince Andrew. Royal historian Piers Brendon said that "Prince Andrew is the Queen’s favorite son. He was heroic during the Falklands War – she has a soft spot for him."
