Poldark season 5 would be the final installment for the series, and this might be an emotional one for the core characters, particularly to Ross (played by Aidan Turner) and Demelza (Eleanor Tomlinson). The upcoming season would probably deliver a sense of closure to these two, yet things would be different for Demelza, as the actress talked about her character's story.
Recently, Turner teased Ross and Demelza were going to be forced apart due to his work in the government. While they'll still have their moments within the season, the latter would not sit there and just wait for something to happen. Demelza will do everything while Ross is away and she'll do what she can to help the people in Cornwall.
Tomlinson discusses this matter, as well as what would be the story of her character in Poldark season 5. She said the Cornish people are struggling to survive, as there would be lack of pay, mine closures, and food shortage. So, Demelza will do her best to help these struggling people and will try to establish a school with Morwenna (Ellise Chappell).
Tomlinson said her character wants to enrich the lives of people in Cornwall, so she realized the importance of education - teaching them how to read and write. She will take on this challenge in the community while at the same time dealing with her struggles.
Also, the actress said they'll be dealing with children being slightly older in Poldark season 5. There would also be more interaction with Valentine as they realized he isn't happy with George, as well as his family.
Tomlinson also said Ross carries a sense of guilt when it comes to Valentine, thus trying to take him under his wing at moments. However, that would have an impact on both families as well. The actress also teased the arrival of the new character, Tess Tregidden (Sofia Oxenham), a woman who can relate to Demelza's past.
These two characters have a few similarities, such as the way they grew up and the things they've been through that give them a sense of unity. However, Demelza has something greater in her life, which leads to Tess' jealousy. She became competitive and will try to unseat her within her own house - starting with Ross.
Meanwhile, other new characters in Poldark season 5 are Ned Despard (Vincent Regan), the ranking officer of Ross in the American Revolutionary War; and his wife Kitty (Kerri McLean).
Poldark season 5 will be back on Sunday, July 14, on BBC One.
