RM was the sole member of BTS who could speak English during their earlier years. When they’re outside South Korea for their concerts and appearances, the 24-year-old rapper, songwriter, and record producer had to answer all of the questions or translate them for the other boys.
Now, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook are becoming more fluent in English, and it’s all because RM was patient enough to give them some lessons. However, it wasn't easy. Here are nine times the BTS leader taught his members some English words, and they struggled.
1. “Pardon.”
RM did not only explain what “pardon” is to Jungkook, but he also taught him how to spell the word. After giving him some examples on how to use it in a sentence, the pair adorably said “pardon” in unison. (Watch the short clip here).
2. “Saxophonist.”
V shared that if he’s not a member of BTS, he would have been a saxophonist. However, the 23-year-old singer, songwriter, record producer, and actor didn’t pronounce it well and said “sexy porn star” instead. RM came to the rescue and taught him how to say the word properly.
3. How to converse in English.
RM wanted his members to learn English by telling them to speak the language when they converse. Unfortunately for Suga, the BTS leader seemed to be too advanced for him and he had a hard time to respond in English and offered to shake his hand as a token of reconciliation instead. (Watch the short clip here).
4. Casual conversation.
When J-Hope felt that he was getting good in English, he struck up a conversation with RM using the language. However, when RM replied in fluent English, the 25-year-old rapper, songwriter, dancer, and record producer got confused and said, “Rap Monster’s English very hard.”
5. “Inspires.”
When RM asked Suga what inspires him, he tried to repeat it but said, “in fires.” RM corrected him and the other boys laughed at Suga’s attempt in English.
6. “4 million. Thank you, A.R.M.Y. A.R.M.Y., we love you!”
For V to memorize this line, RM repeated it over and over with him. As their chant becomes louder and louder, they turned it into rap and J-Hope came in to dance along with them. (Watch the clip here).
7. “July.”
After teaching Jungkook what July means, RM started a conversation with him using the word in the sentence. But since the golden maknae still couldn’t fully understand what “July” is, he replied with “Pardon?” (Jungkook is getting the hang of this word. See #1)
8. “Antarctica.”
RM used the cool feeling inside the plane during a flight to Los Angeles to explain to J-Hope what “Antarctica” is.
9. “Good.”
When RM asked V how he was doing, the latter said: “I’m god.” The BTS leader asked, “You’re god?” and V confidently said “yeah.” Of course, RM corrected this mistake.
