There's a different vibe in the upcoming release of The Walking Dead season 10. Star Norman Reedus (as Daryl Dixon) said that this new installment was done creepily so fans of should brace themselves for some fright.
Speaking with Entertainment Tonight at the red carpet, Reedus revealed that The Walking Dead season 10's theme would be centered on paranoia. Spies will abound within the group, so the characters won't know who is on the good side or bad side.
"It's starting to cause a rift within the groups in who you can trust; there are spies, it's a whole creepy way of doing things this year," Reedus said.
If last season saw some of the Whisperers posing as walkers to get to the group, the threat will accelerate in The Walking Dead season 10. On top of the camouflaged enemies is the propaganda to silence the Whisperers, thus causing more conflict within the community.
The Walking Dead season 10 showrunner Angela Kang also said that the viewers would get backstories about the Whisperers. There will also be the focus on Alpha (played by Samantha Morton) and Beta (played by Ryan Hurst).
"We love them as people, and as performers, I think they bring so much to those roles," Kang said. "So I'm really, really excited for the audience to see what they're bringing to this season because there's much more to explore with them."
Meanwhile, Reedus also hinted that his character might potentially align with Negan (played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan) in The Walking Dead season 10. While he confirmed with Digital Spy that Daryl and Negan are not on the same team, they will be swimming in the same direction this season as a matter of survival.
The Walking Dead season 10 will also introduce Thora Birch and Kevin Carol in the group. Their roles have not yet been detailed apart from their names, which are Gamma and Virgil.
This will be the first full season without actor Andrew Lincoln (as Rick Grimes). This year will also be the final appearance for Danai Gurira (as Michonne) who has earlier announced she was leaving the show.
The only ones who remain from the original cast in The Walking Dead season 10 are Reedus and Melissa McBride (as Carol). The new season will premiere on Sunday, Oct. 6, at 9:00 p.m. on AMC.
