Netizens are calling out pop star Ariana Grande for making a distasteful joke about JonBenet Ramsey on the Instagram page of her friend Doug Middlebrook. The pop star is facing backlash from commenting on the post intended to poke fun at the attention the murdered 6-year-old beauty queen is generating 21 years after her death.
According to the Buzzfeed post, Ariana's BFF Doug Middlebrook posted a snap of several magazines headlining that there were arrests made for the murder of JonBenet Ramsey, a case which remains unresolved two decades after the little beauty queen was found dead in her home. Middlebrook captioned the post: "No one has done more covers."
Before the post was deleted by Middlebrook, netizens quickly screenshot Ariana Grande's comment which read: "I can't wait for this to be your Halloween look," with a heart emoji in the end. They wasted no time in circulating the comment on Twitter to share their thoughts about the insensitive statement.
Many netizens slammed Ariana Grande for poking fun at the murder of JonBenet Ramsey, given the brutal nature of her death and the fact that justice has eluded her family many years after the murder. Even fans have also gone out of their way to express their disappointment at the Thank You, Next singer's comment.
guys is that comment that ariana made real? bc if it is that’s low key disgusting — kara ✧・゚ (@gwstruly) July 29, 2019
it seems like ariana always says and does some shit that would get any other celebrity canceled if they said/did what she did.... it’s not low key disgusting, it’s high key disgusting and toxic af. — ☆ ashlyn ☆ | #9YearsOfOneDirection (@multimikaelsons) July 29, 2019
Ariana has since deleted her comment on Instagram and expressed her remorse over the statement. "I deleted it very quickly and understand that its not at all funny. This was out of pocket, and I sincerely apologize," she said.
She also tweeted further explanation on Twitter where she said that dark jokes are her coping mechanism, yet she also hates when other people make them. She added another apology and thanked her fans for calling her out for her inappropriate comment so that she can be real and learn from her mistakes. The tweet has also been deleted on Twitter soon after.
Despite the apology, netizens are still not appeased. Many are still saying that Ariana should be responsible for her online behavior, given that she is not a child anymore and is already 26 years old. Some netizens said that it is not right for her to be given a free pass each time she makes a mistake and apologizes since it has become a habit.
But that’s the thing, Ariana Grande always says something wrong and then she apologizes and everyone forget about it. That‘s fucking unfair, why is she so privileged? Everyone knows that the Jon Benet’s case is NOT funny, she’s 26. She’s pushing 30. Like hello? {C} — 2019 Predictions (@2019thoughts) July 29, 2019
Netizens recalled the time the pop star apologized after she was caught on video licking donuts that she did not purchase from a store. She also apologized after she was heard saying she hates America and Americans in the background of the said video.
