Elon Musk has been hyping about the possibility of in-car displays for Tesla car drivers since the vehicles are only capable of providing information but not entertainment. However, recently, the CEO has revealed a new set of features that will soon be available in Tesla cars. Musk shared that Tesla vehicles will soon be able to stream YouTube and Netflix.
Previously, Tesla already revealed several games that Tesla drivers could play on the vehicles' displays. During the E3 event last June, Bethesda announced that Tesla drivers would be able to play "Fallout Shelter" on their vehicles. The self-driving car company also released "Cuphead" and several classic games found in Atari. This includes "Pole Position," "Tempest," and "Missile Command."
Before the week ends, the company announced that Tesla drivers can now play chess in the tesla Arcade. These games, however, only operates when the vehicle is parked, and players can utilize the steering wheel as the game controller. On Twitter, Elon Musk revealed that Tesla drivers will soon be able to enjoy streaming YouTube and Netflix.
The same principle used in the will definitely apply to the streaming sites. According to Elon Musk, the company will enable passengers to stream videos while the car is in motion when the regulators approve of it. So far, there is no timeline provided as to when this feature will become available.
Tesla's drive to provide passengers and drivers with video streaming sites and services is not actually a surprise. During the E3 event, Elon Musk shared that the ability to view YouTube videos will soon arrive on Tesla cars. So far, the vehicle's display does not support HTML5. This means that the feature is not yet available in Tesla cars at the moment.
The opportunity to watch YouTube or Netflix or to play video games while the Tesla car is parked or moving has an appeal to those who are stuck waiting in the car for the kid's rehearsal or for those stuck on a long ride. It is really something to look forward to, especially if your car can drive itself. It gives the passengers something to do while riding to their point of destination.
However, there are massive concerns that would definitely come with Tesla's upcoming feature. Test vehicles are required to have a driver to take control in the event that something bad happens and although the technology in the self-driving industry is already advancing, it is still difficult to imagine that specific thing totally going away.
