It's no secret that fans have huge expectations when it comes to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. As the final movie in the Skywalker Saga, Star Wars Episode 9 is expected to give the series of films some form of closure while also hinting at what the future holds for the franchise. With that in mind, people are expecting The Rise of Skywalker to answer some questions about Rey's true identity. But is it possible that Rey's home planet has already been revealed in the trailer?
There is little doubt that Star Wars Episode 9 will center on the complicated connection between Rey and Kylo Ren. Although there are already speculations that the former Ben Solo is set for a major redemption arc, Rey's story continues to be a huge mystery. For instance, some believe that Kylo wasn't exactly being truthful when he called Rey's parents were simply "filthy junk traders" who sold their child for "drinking money." This is because of one interesting scene from Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
In The Force Awakens, Rey had a Force vision when she found Anakin Skywalker's old lightsaber at Maz Kanata's castle in Takodana. One of the things that she saw in her vision was her young self being left in the care of Unkar Plutt. Interestingly, the same scene showed that young Rey was calling out to a ship that was leaving the planet, begging for them to come back. This suggests that she was left in Jakku while her parents flew away from the planet.
The scene is certainly in dire contrast with what Kylo Ren said in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. According to Kylo, Rey's parents sold her off for "drinking money" and are "dead in a pauper's grave in the Jakku desert." However, Rey's vision seemed to prove that her parents left Jakku on a ship that may have been purchased from Unkar Plutt. This could mean that Kylo was lying about Rey's past or she might be hiding the truth from him.
Interestingly, the same ship may have been spotted in the Star Wars Episode 9 trailer. In one scene, the ship or a similar spacecraft is shown flying over the planet that has since been revealed as Kijimi. There is a possibility that it's the same ship and the planet is actually where Rey was originally born and raised. Additionally, it could mean Rey's parents are still very much alive.
Are Rey's parents finally going to be introduced? Find out when Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters on December 20.
